The ‘Salamander Connector Adventure Trail’ is a work in progress. We have a permit from the Forest Service to put in a simple, winter-only, back-country ski / snowshoe trail connecting the SE Connector of the White Salmon Trail with the Cougar Loop of the Salmon Ridge SnoPark. We are part way there.
Five of us did make the trip on March 2 and had a great time. Total distance: about 8 miles (6 miles for the Razor Hone / Cougar Loop, <2 miles round trip on the Connector), time: about 3 hours for the Cougar Loop (including cutting out the tree blocking the trail), and 2 hours for the out-and-back to the Big Tree Meetup, including lunch. The trail was fairly easy to follow with a few blue diamonds and a lot of pink survey tape.
Next up: Starting from the top and going down to the far point of our trail work, lunch, and then a long way back *uphill* to the cars. Schedule: not yet determined, but sometime in March…
Note: The two portions *DO NOT CONNECT*. You do not want to try to make this a one-way trip from top to bottom at this time!
