Bellingham Mountaineers Club offers beginner level lesson and trip opportunies in January and February,2010
NNSC member Jeremy Boyer reports: "I spoke with Molly Kaufmann who's the Bellingham Mountaineers contact for ski touring. They're trying to offer more ski touring as Mtneers club activities. This particular program's skiing takes place at the Salmon Ridge Sno-Park (the NNSC maintains) and participants stay at Mt Baker Lodge at night. It's geared towards new XC skiers and includes lessons with practice sessions. She said non-Mtneers members are welcome. If anyone in the NNSC wants a free beginner level lesson, they can participate in these ski trips. They can also stay at the Mt Baker Lodge. They'd like to have non-members participate so they can become members later and help pay for upkeep of the Mt Baker Lodge (which isn't cheap, she said). They'll have 2 trips/lessons in January and 2 in February. Details will be up later at the Mountaineer's website. They don't have any new routes or anything like that...unfortunately. But, seems like a good opportunity to learn how to XC ski."
Paul Cookson of the Mount Baker Hiking Club says "I have booked the Grizzly Hut for Sat. night Jan. 23. They make you reserve the whole thing which holds 8 people. There are 6 beds avalable of those 8. This is the Rendezvous Trail hut ski system near Mazama in the Methow Valley. Mary Durbrow has reserved 2 cabins in the Rendezvous Trail System for February 22, 23, 24 There is still room for 6 more skiers to fill the second cabin It is a ski-in hut, a steady elevation gain to get here, and we will hire a cat-tractor to haul our gear in and out The cabin ski-in time is estimated at 4 hours.

Mount Baker Hiking Club - For over 75 years this volunteer organization has served the Whatcom County region. Their purpose is to provide regular opportunities for hiking, biking, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and kayaking, as well as monthly social activities. Also promote the conservation of recreational areas which are of interest to the club's members. A great way to meet new friends and explore the area.
